Michael Jackson Musical Song project based on poems of Robert Burns

The Robert Burns’ Birthplace Museum is in talks about receiving a copy of songs co-written with Michael Jackson that are based on Burns’ poems.

Music producer David Gest visited the museum in Ayrshire (UK) in December as part of a programme being filmed for Gaelic TV channel BBC Alba. He told them that he and Michael had planned a musical based on the Ayrshire poet’s life and had arranged some of his works into songs before recording them with friends.

Director of the Museum, Nat Edwards, said: “We had a chat and thought it would be great if we could play them at the museum and he offered to look them out and provide copies so we could do that… We would very much be looking forward to getting hold of these recordings and if possible for us to produce some sort of CD that could help raise money for the museum. That would be fantastic…. They’d be a way of getting other audiences interested in Burns and illustrating his international, enduring artistic legacy.”

Music producer Gest, the former husband of actress Liza Minnelli, said that Michael was a huge fan of Burns’ poetry and was keen to be involved in the project that saw the Scot’s work turned into show tunes. He also claimed that Michael’s 1983 song and film Thriller was inspired by Burns’ gothic poem Tam O’ Shanter.

Gest, in an interview with BBC Alba, reportedly said that Michael Jackson had offered the use of a recording studio in LA and to pay for all the music for the proposed musical. He said: “We went to his recording studio at the family house in Encino, where all the Jacksons grew up and we took about eight or 10 of Burns’s poems and we put them to contemporary music, things like A Red Red Rose and Ae Fond Kiss and the story of Tam O’Shanter.”

A Burns fan himself, in 1996 Gest staged a show about the Bard’s life starring Glasgow-born performer John Barrowman titled Red Red Rose. This new musical was due to be produced by American actor Anthony Perkins (Psycho) and directed by Gene Kelly (Singin’ In The Rain) but both men died before the work could be staged.

New prehistoric lobster family, found on June 25 ’09 named after Michael Jackson

A Dutch palaeontologist, René Fraaije, has named a new family of lobsters after Michael Jackson. Fraaije, also managing director of the prehistory museum in Boxtel (the Netherlands) named the small anmial Mesoparapylocheles Michaeljacksoni.

Fraaije discoverd the prehistoric animal together with a group of students in Spain on June 25, 2009. It wasn’t until he investigated the animal until he found out it is a very rare fossil. It isn’t only a new animal, it’s even a new animal family.

Because this was a very special find he felt it deserved a new name. He says “It was already a very special day. On that day a special artist died too. That’s why I decided to name the lobster family after the King Of Pop.”

The Mesoparapylocheles Michaeljacksoni lobster family Cretaceous period. During this period dinosaurs were still alive!

Michael Jackson Unreleased Lyrics Up For Sale On Auction

The late singer's dermatologist Dr. Arnold Klein is putting the eight-and-a-half line verse - which was given to him by the 'Beat It' hitmaker, who died in July 2009 from acute Propofol intoxication - up for auction after he declared himself bankrupt.

Catherine Williamson - from auctioneers Bonhams, who have valued the note at between $3,000 and $5,000 - said: "It looks like it is written in poetic format. There are eight-and-a-half lines and they feel like lyrics. We could not find it in any of his published music so maybe it was a work in progress or is a song that has not yet been released.

"These lyrics are pretty intriguing and we will expect they will attract a lot of attention."

The Beverly Hills skin expert - who introduced the singer to his second wife Debbie Rowe, who he had two children with, Prince Michael, 14, and 13-year-old Paris - believes Michael may have predicted his own death in the note.

The verse begins: "Across the sea of time, we shall meet on endless shores, counting our blessings of love's eternity."

It is thought the words could have been work in progress for a new song, or even a track he abandoned.

Arnold's medical records were used in the trial of Michael's former physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who was found guilty of the involuntary manslaughter of the singer and sentenced to four years in prison in November 2011.

The auction is set to take place in Los Angeles, on January 23.

Dr. Conrad Murray Back to Court to Prove MJ Partly Caused His Own Death

Dr. Conrad Murray is asking the judge in his criminal case to deny Michael Jackson's family full restitution, on grounds MJ caused his own death.

Murray filed legal docs yesterday -- obtained by TMZ -- asking for evidence the defense never received during the trial ... evidence that could show Michael self-administered the fatal dose of Propofol.

Murray's lawyer, Michael Flanagan, argues that in deciding how much restitution the family gets, it's appropriate to consider the victim's responsibility for his own demise.

So Murray will concede he's partly to blame -- he can't argue otherwise because of the conviction -- but he still wants to prove that MJ ultimately caused his own death.

The prosecution is asking for around $100 million in restitution, but the judge hasn't decided on a figure. But once the figure is set, if Flanagan gets his way and the judge were to decide MJ was 50% responsible for his death, the judge would reduce the restitution award by 50%.

Estate Executor John Branca To Receive 2012 GRAMMY Service Award

‘Glee’ Michael Jackson Tribute Episode Song List Leaked

We already know that the Glee cast will perform 12 songs from Michael’s extensive music catalogue, extending back to his time with the Jackson 5. A few weeks ago, TV Guide magazine reported that the Warblers and Sebastian would also partake in the Michael Jackson tribute, and that Blaine would take on “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin,’” while Finn and Rachel would do a duet of “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You.”

Even though this list has not been confirmed by Fox or anyone over at “Glee,” judging from what we already know of the episode, it doesn’t sound too far off.

At the official Billboard Album Chart for weekending 14-01-2012 Michael Jackson album Number Ones had hit #27 and been the 'greatest galiner' on the chart.

At No. 27, his “Number Ones” set zips up 156 slots on the chart — the second-biggest leap on the tally (19,000; up 78%), marking the highest rank for the King of Pop’s 2003 best-of set since the tally dated Jan. 24, 2004, when it was No. 24. However, it did spend six weeks at No. 1 on the now-defunct Comprehensive Albums chart in 2009, after his sudden death.

Joe Jackson's tribute perfume gets new launch date for January

Michael’s father Joe said on Thursday he will begin selling the much-delayed fragrances that honour his son later this month, without using the name Michael.

Joe Jackson, who was left out of Michael’s will, first promoted the “Jackson’s Tribute” and “Jackson’s Legend” fragrance line at the Cannes film festival in May. But the launch was scrapped when the company that owns the commercial rights to sell products under Michael Jackson’s name (Bravado) filed a lawsuit seeking to ban sales and asking for damages.

Joe Jackson and his partner, Julian Rouas Paris, said on Thursday they will launch the line in Las Vegas on January 21. Called The JRP/Jackson Perfume Collection, it will be sold from a booth in the gambling city’s Fashion Show Mall. “We don’t use Michael’s name. We don’t use his image,” Rouas told Reuters. Rouas said the family “want to stay private” by selling the line through small outlets in U.S. shopping malls rather than through established stores.

The description of the fragrances given back at the Cannes film festival said the they were “inspired by Michael’s story”. Thursday’s statement from the fragrance makers said the scents, which will sell starting at $59, “honor the greatest superstar that has graced the world.”

100 Fans From France Are Suing Conrad Murray For “Emotional Damage”

A group of Michael Jackson fans in France are suing Conrad Murray saying that Michael’s death caused them “emotional damage.”

Michael died on June 25, 2009, of “acute propofol intoxication” in combination with two sedatives. Propofol is an anesthesia, and was administered intravenously to Michael by Murray. More than two years later, a California jury found Murray guilty of involuntary manslaughter in November of 2011, and he was sentenced to four years in prison.

According to AFP, attorney Emmanuel Ludot, claiming to represent approximately 100 members of the Michael Jackson Community fan club, has filed a lawsuit against Murray over the emotional trauma suffered by the fans after Michael’s death.

“It’s similar to losing a childhood friend in a traffic accident,” Ludot said. “Because this death affects you, you have the possibility to file a suit and seek compensation.”

But according to Ludot, this isn’t an ambulance chasing money grab. Instead, the fans are seeking a “symbolic euro” each from Murray, although Ludot said that the possibility existed that each fan may be awarded as much as 10,000 euros (74,500 dk).

Earlier this week, the Medical Board of California suspended Murray’s medical license. The medical boards in Nevada and Texas, where Murray was also licensed to practice medicine, had previously restricted or suspended his license as well.

Will.i.am Will Release His Work With Michael If Jackson Family Approves

Rapper Will.i.am has refused to release any of his work with Michael before. The work has not been completed at all. Now Will.i.am says that he will not release any material without approval from the Jackson family themselves.

The Black Eyed Peas rapper started working Michael back in 2006, but Michael had yet to give final approval on any tracks before his death in 2009. Will.i.am says he has been asked to release some of their music together in the past, but refuses to do so unless the Jackson family give their approval.

“Because we became friends I don’t want to be an opportunist,” he told Access Hollywood Live this week. “Now if his mom called me and said, ‘We got to do this’, then yes.”

Will.i.am also spoke about his friendship with Michael, and revealed his favourite thing about him. “We would talk on the phone, he would call me for Father’s Day, call me on Mother’s Day, birthdays, things like that so it surprised me just how down to earth – as big as he is – how down to earth he was.”

Judge issues favorable ruling for insurers of Jackson's ill-fated tour

The insurers of Michael Jackson's attempted comeback concerts "This Is It" won a round in court Thursday when a judge said the company can begin collecting information from the promoters of the singer's attempted 2009 comeback tour.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Malcolm Mackey denied a motion by AEG Live asking that a lawsuit by Lloyd's of London be put on hold until two other legal actions by the mother and father of the late singer concerning his death are concluded.

Mackey also said he will delay setting a trial date and appoint an evidence referee to make recommendations to him in case any disputes arise between the two sides in exchanging information.

"I know this is a multi-faceted case and I think that somewhere it's going to settle way down the line," Mackey said. "For what, I don't know."

Attorney Paul Schrieffer, on behalf of Lloyd's, criticized AEG Live's motion. He said his clients have waited for more than two years to get the documents they need and that any such motion should have been brought months earlier.

"Now they have the epiphany to come into this court and ask for a stay in this case," he said.

After the hearing, Schrieffer said he was pleased that the motion was denied. He also said he would be agreeable to the cases by Katherine and Joe Jackson being tried ahead of the Lloyd's case so long as his clients continue to get their information from AEG Live.

Lloyd's filed suit against AEG Live and the Michael Jackson Co. LLC last June. Lloyd's wants a judge to declare it does not have to pay AEG's $17.5 million policy on grounds the insurers were not told the singer was taking drugs before he died of a drug overdose on June 25, 2009, at age 50.

The Lloyd's lawsuit against AEG claims the company did not tell the insurer about the singer's medical history, "including, but not limited to, his apparent prescription drug use and/or drug addiction." The company also alleges AEG did not disclose the star's use of propofol, a powerful anesthetic normally used in a hospital setting.

The late pop star's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter last year in the death of Jackson, who died of acute propofol intoxication. The physician was sentenced to four years in prison, but is expected to spend about half that time behind bars.

Murray administered the final dose to Jackson at his rented mansion to help him sleep, then failed to monitor the singer, according to trial testimony.

Lloyd's was never told that the singer was missing rehearsals and appearing at meetings with slurred speech after visiting the office of Dr. Arnold Klein, the singer's dermatologist, according to the Lloyd's attorneys' court documents.

Up until the last day of Jackson's life, Lloyd's executives were asking for Jackson's medical information from AEG Live's lawyer, who in turn was passing those requests to Murray, according to the Lloyd's attorneys' court papers.

In their suits, Katherine Jackson is suing AEG Live for the alleged negligent hiring of Murray. The case is scheduled for trial in September.

Joe Jackson's complaint names both Murray and AEG Live. No trial date is set.

Attorney Marvin Putnam, on behalf of AEG Live, said the company is not interested in settling either case.

"These are just shakedowns of my clients," he said.

The Estate of Michael Jackson announced today that Michael will be immortalized in a hand and foot print ceremony at Hollywood’s legendary Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on January 26, 2012, starting at 11:00am PST.

In a giant celebration of the legacy of the King of Pop, and the Los Angeles debut of Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour, Michael Jackson’s three children, Prince, Paris and “Blanket” will use their father’s shoes and sequined glove to make impressions in the cement in the famous forecourt of the theatre (alongside such entertainment icons as Fred Astaire, Elizabeth Taylor, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Sidney Poitier, Clark Gable, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks).

Will.I.Am Worked With Michael Jackson For Free

Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am refused to accept cash from Michael Jackson when the two superstars teamed up to record new material in Ireland in 2006 - because the chance to work with the King of Pop was payment enough.

The hitmaker and producer turned down Jackson's generous offers of flights and accommodation because he didn't want to become one of the many hangers-on who took advantage of the Thriller singer.

The I Gotta Feeling star says, "A week before the trip, he was like, 'My manager is gonna call you to make sure all the travel stuff (is taken care of). Do you fly commercial or private?'

"I was like, 'Don't worry about my flights; I'll pay for my flights... So many people have taken advantage of you in the past... it will be my honour to take myself there and let's just make music to make music. You don't pay for my flight, I won't charge you my fees and if we make good music then the song will make (me) money.'

"He's had a history of people just taking advantage of his success and camping out in the studio and charging him outrageous rates."

And will.i.am doesn't want to take advantage of his friend now he's not around to OK the release of music the duo worked on in Ireland.

After opposing the release of a posthumous album of Jackson material in the months after the singer's death in 2009, will.i.am insists only a call from the King of Pop's mum will make him rethink his stance on not releasing the new music.

He tells news show Access Hollywood Live, "When they (record executives) released the last stuff they called me, but no... For me, I've got my moment; my moment working with Mike and seeing Mike and being his friend and because we became friends, I don't wanna be an opportunist.
"If his mum called me and said, 'We gotta do this...' then yes."

Here is the first Minimix from Ben Liebrand I have in my collection (not to mention with the very first Ben Liebrand Minimix ever made)

This is from the way back in 1984, when BL had the idear to take a group/artist and put together some of the best hits they had made, and creating a Minimix. In this he use Gary's Gang with some of there 70's - early 80's disco classics.

Formed in Queens, New York, U.S.A.

The brainchild of Eric Matthew (real name Joe Tucci) and Gary Turnier, in New York, Gary's Gang were a small group of musicians who recorded live in a garage at the back of Eric's house.

The writing and production chores were handled, jointly, by Joe and Gary.

It was here they made their debut single 'Keep On Dancin' which sold half a million copies around the world and was a U.K. Top 10 hit (1978).

The drums were played by Gary Turnier on the song.

It was co-written by Eric Matthew and released in the U.K. by CBS (licenced from Sam Records).

Their CBS follow-up was 'Let's Love Dance Tonight' (U.K. Top 50 in 1979).

In 1982 they returned with 'Knock Me Out' (U.K. Top 50) for Arista before Eric Matthew wrote and produced 'Makin' Music' for the Radar Records label in 1983.

In 1990 'Keep On Dancin' was remixed by Hollywood Impact, and released by BCM Records in the U.K.

Gary Turnier went on to play the drums on 'Love Insurance' by Front Page, and he produced 'The Beat Is Mine' by Vicki D.

Legendary MJ’s Review of ‘The Life of an Icon’ Film by David Gest

The Life of an Icon, of which Michael’s mother Katherine said it is a film she “so strongly believes in”. She says “David Gest, who was one of Michael’s closest life-long friends, has done a brilliant job in enlightening people to who the real Michael Jackson was. This movie is a true vindication of my son and some of the terrible things that he was put through in his life. I hope people will watch this film and understand more.”

Tonight we sat down and watched the new film by David Gest ourselves. Here is our personal and honest review of this new release:

The film starts with the 911 call which was made on June 25th. We see Michael’s longtime manager and friend Frank Dileo (may you rest in piece) talking about how he felt when he heard Michael passed away. He says he was so grateful to be able to be alone in the room with Michael after he died so he could to tell him how he felt.

After those images taking us back to that black day, the film takes us right to the beginning. It tells the story of Katherine Jackson growing up in Chicago showing images and video footage of the city in that time. Katherine Jackson starts telling about how she discovered Michael’s talent and how the Jackson Five was founded. It is the same story as we have heard over and over again. The washing machine making noises and Michael dancing to the rythm of that machine. It is great to see Katherine telling us about that with a heart filled with warmth.

The film gives the audience a very detailed describtion of how Michael and his brothers were discoverd and introduced into Motown. Many of us already knew that the Jackson Five were actually discovered by Bobby Taylor and not Diana Ross. In the film we get a detailed story of all the people who were actually there about how that happened. Motown stars explain how Michael sang songs based on grown up stories with so much emotion and a perfect voice. It was almost immpossible for such a young kid to sing these stories with so much soul.

Gest let’s you feel like you are welcomed in that time like you just went into a time machine and you are now a fly on the wall in that time. The people that were there talk about Michael and his brothers with smiles on their faces. The audience gets sucked into their memories like they were there.

The Life of an Icon features perfect quality Jackson Five performances and loads of rare pictures. Again, it made us realize that there is so much good material available to release. Even watching it on our High Definition LED television, it is in really good shape and should not be kept in vaults. This is material that is to be considered world heritage that needs to be preserved for future generations.

After the Motown periode the eye witnesses take us to the time when Michael and his brothers signed up with CBS. Although Motown made them stars and gave them so much good material to work with it was time to express themselves and start to create things for their own. Unfortunately the new boss of Motown was not going to let this happen. Again, it’s a story that has often be told but this comes from the people who were actually there.

The Jacksons (Katherine, Tito and Rebbie) tell how difficult the time was when they had to leave Jermaine behind at Motown. He was married to the daughter of Berry Gordy and felt he owed his succes to him. Katherine explains she felt the same way. But at CBS and Epic the boys were able to explore themselves. Michael got the freedom to try out new things.

The film tells us that Michael tried to hold off going solo for as long as he could. Michael knew that his brothers wouldn’t be able to keep up with him. He began to feel like a solo artist more and more. Eventually, Katherine Jackson explains, it was a lawyer of Michael who warned her to tell the boys to save their money because Michael was going solo.

Michael got to work with Quincy Jones. The two had great respect for each other and they made Off The Wall. Michael was a great singer and Quincy was a great arranger. The Off The Wall album was the first black album to be played on white popsong radio stations. Something that is very normal for us today.

After Off The Wall Michael started to work on Thriller with Quincy. Michael was convinced it was going to sell hundreds of millions, however Quincy told Michael he thought they would only sell about 5 million copies and if it got really big, maybe 10 million. Because Michael felt that that meant Quincy didn’t believe enough in the album he almost cancelled the release of it. Eventually Thriller was released and even today, it is the greatest selling album of all times.

Katherine explains how Michael would complain with her about people bringing out albums with only one or two good songs on it. He didn’t believe in that. He felt every song had to be great. This is exactly why we believe Michael is the greatest entertainer in the world. He was a true perfectionist.
Thriller didn’t only make Michael Jackson a superstar, it also saved the record industry. A very interesting detail told by the film which is not known by the general public. When Thriller was released the record industry was going through very difficult times. Thousands of people were losing their jobs. Because of people going to the record store to buy Thriller, they also bought other products. As we know now, after his death he did the same thing. The record industry and MTV should be very grateful for Michael Jackson.

After Thriller the film uses more video footage from Michael during the Bad, Dangerous and HIStory time. Unfortunately this is how we can see that this film was not made with the Michael Jackson Estate. The footage is often of a very poor quality. However, leaving it out would not have been an option. The film needed to tell the whole story of Michael Jackson.

The people who know Michael tell about how he was so aware of his image. He was very aware of the value of them and the historical meaning of them. Michael was under immense pressure to be in the public eye constantly. This is where The Life of an Icon starts about Michael’s plastic surgery. Many times we have seen documentaries about Michael starting good until this subject comes along. While we were bracing ourselves for the same dissapointment we were given the honest story. People who were actually there explain how it started and how they feel Michael had people who advised him the wrong treatments. The subject is part of Michael’s life and should not have been left out. It is discussed in a very respectful way.

The film also features the video footage of the Pepsi accident. it is the first documentary to explain the balloon therapy Michael had after the burnings. This was never done before with so many details. It explains the therapy was very progressive for that time and that Michael underwent many of thos treatment throughout his careerd. Thos balloon treatments were very very painful. Mother Katherine explains that because of that Michael needed to take pain killers.

Fortunately the film does not turn dark at that point but continues to inform us and make us laugh at the same time. Randi Tamborelli, one of the main characters in the film, tells us about the first time Michael had wine. He drank half a bottle and loved the taste. In the end Michael had to vomit. Because of the way this story is told you can’t help but to smile.

The Life of an Icon is the most complete documentary we have seen so far. It even includes the release problems that were surrounding the This Is It song after Michael’s dead. Paul Anka, who recorded the song with Michael, explains how ‘they’ found the song in Michael’s home after he died. He explains how it got there and how he believes it was an honest mistake. Anka said that after talking a few hours everything was settled.

Without going into the details we will tell you that the film deals with all the bad things in Michael’s life too. It takes us back to the Chandler drama, tells us how Michael felt when his sister gave a press conference suggesting he did things wrong (forced by her ex husband) upto the full 2005 trial. It are way too many details to describe here, you should really see the film. Gest has tried to show every aspect of this dark period with Thomas Mesereau as one of the people who knows what actually happened behind the scenes. Gest has made sure that there is no doubt left, Michael was framed by many people and they had nothing. It was prosecutor Sneddon who tried to make everything they had talk in their own direction. It was Sneddon who made it his personal goal to get Michael Jackson down.

The last thing we want to say about this period was that Michael did not wanted to pay off the Chandler family. In the end he was pushed for the wrong reasons by his lawyers. Katherine explains that he finally gave in and made them pay off the family so he could move on with his careerd. Michael later admitted he regretted that decision.

Also the marriages of Michael are discussed. Katherine tells about how she heard Michael married Lisa Marie Presley. It confirms that Michael and Lisa Marie really loved each other. The film is also very honest about the marriage of Michael and Debbie Rowe. People who knew Michael remember talking to him about this as he explained why he married her.

The film is really a very complete document of Michael’s life. It talks about the happy moments and the dark moments of Michael. It touches every single subject there is to know about Michael like the battle between him and his brother Jermaine, the story about the MSG concerts in New York, the Martin Bashir drama, the trials and Michael’s use of pain killers and other medicines.

Although some people might use these subjects as a reason to attack David Gest and his work The Life of an Icon. According to us the film portrays Michael as a human being, a humble person, a humanitarian who was deeply deeply talented. A man who was very loving to everyone and was loved by many. A man who trusted anyone but was betrayed by many as well. For us, this is one of the most honest and complete stories about Michael we’ve ever seen. It’s the complete story, it’s honest and truthful, it makes you smile, laugh and cry. An asset for every Michael Jackson fan collection.

Film Producer David Gest Promises Fresh Take On Michael Jackson

Reality TV star and concert promoter David Gest has promised fans a fresh insight into Michael Jackson in his documentary about the late “king of pop” which has its premiere in London on Wednesday. Gest has teamed up with Universal Pictures to make Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon, released this week on Blu-ray and DVD with the blessing of Michael’s mother Katherine.

“This is not a rehashed story,” Gest told Reuters in a recent interview to promote the picture. “It’s totally new in what you learn.” The producer, a long-time friend of Michael, is also involved in a singing and spoken-world tribute tour to Michael which kicks off in Britain next spring. His projects are part of a series of Michael Jackson-related events that have been staged, screened or planned since Michael died in June 2009.

Asked if Gest felt such projects were merely attempts to cash in on Michael’s name, Gest replied: ”There’s a place if it tells a story that nobody knows and you enlighten the public (as) to who he is. I think if a project is interesting and new and different people are fascinated by Michael Jackson,” the American added.
“I think the Cirque du Soleil show is brilliant. I think people will be entertained by my film. This film is so different because I would say 90 percent of it is new information you have never heard. ”You see who the man was behind the music.”

The Life of an Icon features interviews with Katherine Jackson, Michael’s siblings Tito and Rebbie and friends and colleagues including Smokey Robinson, Dionne Warwick and Whitney Houston. Tito discusses what the family went through during the child molestation trial in 2005 where his brother was eventually acquitted on all counts.

The film traces Michael from his breakthrough in the Jackson 5 to his rise to fame as a solo artist through to his sudden death in Los Angeles.

“You see Katherine Jackson in a totally different light,” said Gest. “She’s very honest and she’s very open and you really feel for her, especially when you see her talking about his death and how it affected her.”

Gest promised amusing anecdotes as well as moving recollections. One, he said, involved Houston recalling a visit she made to Michael’s Neverland Ranch in California where she was involved in an embarrassing mealtime mix-up between Michael and his pet chimpanzee Bubbles.

Katherine Jackson Statement on World Premiere ‘The Life of an Icon’

Katherine Jackson has cancelled her appearance at the world premiere of Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon on November 2nd. Michael’s mother will remain in Los Angeles for the closing stages of the trial of Conrad Murray, accused of the involuntary manslaughter of her son in 2009.

The world premiere event will go-ahead with Michael’s brother Tito, sister Rebbie and producer David Gest. The trio will answer questions submitted by Michael Jackson fans in a global live Q&A to launch the movie about Michael’s life.

Katherine Jackson has issued the following statement:
“I am very sorry that I cannot attend the World Premiere in London of a film I so strongly believe in, Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon. Due to the verdict in the trial of Dr Conrad Murray possibly being at that time, I want to be present in the court room for reasons I am sure everyone in the world will understand.

David Gest, who was one of Michael’s closest life-long friends, has done a brilliant job in enlightening people to who the real Michael Jackson was. Jury reaches verdict in Conrad Murray trial

A verdict has been reached in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray. The verdict is set to be read in court at about 4:00 p.m. ET. Watch the verdict and follow the reaction tonight on HLN with Jane Velez-Mitchell, Nancy Grace, Dr. Drew and Joy Behar.

[Updated at 3:19 p.m. ET ]Defense attorney Nareg Gourjian has arrived at the courthouse, the first attorney to come back to the court from either side to arrive, according to InSession's Michael Christian. Gourjian was questioned by several reporters, but he declined to comment.

[Updated at 3:06 p.m. ET] Michael Jackson's brother, Jermaine, has also arrived at the courthouse. CNN reporters have not seen any of Conrad Murray's attorneys arrive at the courthouse yet, but there are reports that Murray is on his way there.

Jurors heard from 49 witnesses over 23 days, including Murray's girlfriends and patients, Jackson's former employees, investigators, and medical experts for each side.

Prosecutors argue that Murray's use of propofol in Jackson's home to treat his insomnia was so reckless it was criminally negligent.

The defense contends Jackson self-administered the fatal overdose of drugs in a desperate search for sleep without Murray's knowing.

Murray, if convicted, faces up to four years in prison and the loss of his medical license.

Conrad Murray Jury Reach Their Verdict, Decision Due

Dr Conrad Murray is just hours away from learning whether he will be jailed for the death of Michael Jackson, after the jury in the high profile trial reached their verdict after two days of deliberations. The verdict will be read on Monday afternoon (7th November 2011), once Jackson's family have arrived in the courthouse.

The court is allowing a two hour window before reading out the guilty or not guilty finding. The identities of the seven men and five women who have made the decision have been kept a secret, even from the case lawyers. However, it is known that the group represent a diverse cross section of Los Angeles, with varying ethnicities and ages. They are, white, black and Hispanic and include a professor, a postman, a bus driver, an actor and a film animation supervisor. A few of them are said to be fans of singer, with the video animation specialist confirming he had some interaction with the superstar when he was making the video for Captain EO. Dr Conrad Murray faces up to four years in prison if convicted of the involuntary manslaughter of the late singer, who died in 2009 from an overdose of the powerful anaesthetic Propofol.

The jurors heard nearly a full day of closing arguments on Thursday (3rd November 2011), with the defence accusing prosecutors of playing on the emotions of the jury by repeatedly showing them a photo of Jackson's children. A prosecutor spoke of how a renowned anaesthesiologist's defence of Murray was "junk science", according to the Los Angeles Times.

According to Ben, this singer was born in Hoboken rather "mediocre", which according to DJ Sven a "superlative" is. To some good sound is the voice of Ben Liebrand backing vocalist highlighted at the expense of Pia Zadora. This provided him with the record company CBS that compliment one another he had managed to get to even Pia Zadora good sound. The mix also contains many acid samples and you should also inloeden of the Inner City.

Michael Jackson Hearing Postponed

A judge in California has postponed the latest hearing in the Michael Jackson manslaughter case to give lawyers more time to wade through hours of the singer's tour rehearsal footage.

The Thriller hitmaker's physician Dr. Conrad Murray is accused of administering the fatal dose of anaesthetic that killed the superstar in 2009, just weeks before he was due to hit the stage in London for his This Is It comeback concerts.

Murray is set to stand trial later this year (11) after pleading not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter, and last month (Jun11), lawyers won permission to show raw, previously unseen footage of the King of Pop's show rehearsals.

Prosecutors hope the footage will show Jackson was fit and healthy in the weeks leading up to his death, while the defence claims the tapes will demonstrate he was sick - but it could take weeks for all the lawyers to view the relevant video clips.

Defence attorney Nareg Gourjian says, "So far, we have found a lot of important stuff. There are about eight to 10 different cameras that were recording the rehearsals and each one has different views and different footage. So it is critical that we review the footage from each camera."

A hearing in the case was scheduled to take place on 12 July (11), but on Wednesday (06Jul11), Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor accepted requests to push it back until 20 July (11) to give both sides more time to view the rehearsal videos.

The involuntary manslaughter trial is set to begin on 8 September (11).

The Jacksons Are Talking About A Reunion Tour (Again)

Michael's brothers are working on a reunion tour to perform their old Jackson songs, Jermaine Jackson said in June. "Michael would want us to continue on," Jermaine said, after he unveiled an exhibit of his brother’s wax statues at Madame Tussauds in Hollywood.

"The brothers now are ready just to keep the legacy going and the music," Jermaine said. "We're meeting today about putting a tour together just to play the music because it’s such wonderful music. We need to continue to play this music because it's healing for us."

Jermaine did not say which of his brothers were involved in the talks. Recent attempts to reunite the brothers on stage were met with frustration and division, including the effort documented by an A&E Network reality show in 2009.

Michael Jackson secretly left behind an almost billion-dollar secret art fortune that is now at the center of an international tug of war, Star has exclusively learned.

The never-before-seen collection would have insured the King of Pop's surviving children were looked after for life. But in a startling twist, the secret vault has been sold out from underneath them, at a 'bargain basement' price, relatively speaking.

Lawyers running the late Thriller singer's estate are moving to block the $87.7 million sale to an undisclosed international businessman, in a desperate attempt to return the incredible treasure to Prince, 13, Paris, 12, and Blanket, 8, and their guardian, Jackson's mother Katherine.

In an astonishing appraisal of the 182-pieces, obtained exclusively by Star, the “rare intact major collection” was valued at a whopping $902.52 million, with “an invaluable pedigree for future sales in the international art market.”

“Michael’s mystique in life combined with this exposure of his wonderful fine art creations following his tragic death will escalate the value of these works and the popularity of his artistic vision worldwide,” appraiser Eric Finzi, a certified member of the International Society of Appraisers, wrote in a document obtained by the magazine.

“I do not think we have begun to see the true value of this fine art yet.”

The loot is so valuable that it’s worth almost more than Jackson’s other assets combined, including copyrights to his pop hits and the Beatles' catalog, which he purchased in 1998 for $47.5 million.

Jackson, who was once famously called “a millionaire who lived like a billionaire,” built the extensive collection of sculptures and sketches that he drew while being taught by an Australian artist, Brett-Livingston Strong, who was a close friend.

Strong and his advisors orchestrated the deal recently, Star has learned.

Star uncovered:

* Sketches of Jackson’s own feet doing his signature move from 'Billie Jean', the Moonwalk, now one of the best-known dance techniques in the world. Those original drawings have been valued at $600,000 each.

* His fascination with the number 7. In a series of artworks, Jackson sketched the numeral -- which coincided with the star's three biggest albums -- "Thriller," "Bad" and "Dangerous" -- each producing 7 top 40 hits. Jackson was also the 7th of 9 children.

* Recreations of the Statue of David and Dying Slave, the masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture by Michelangelo.

* His first work of art, "We the People," on Presidential archival paper. It’s said to be worth $3 million, according to the appraisal.

* An interesting political relic: The U.S. Presidency Seal signed by President Ronald Reagan. Jackson had visited the White House on May 16, 1984.

* After that visit, Jackson sketched ‘The White House Doors’ -- a drawing appraisers have estimated is worth at $3 million.

* Sketches of Martin Luther King, President Abraham Lincoln and President George Washington, worth in all, more than $8.1 million, it’s suggested.

* A self portrait emblazoned on a plaque to be the feature of an entrance to a theater at Neverland. There’s also an image of what Jackson titled the ‘Peter Pan Magic Gate.’

* Hand-signed sepia prints of ‘The Book,’ reputed to be the only portrait he ever posed for. The portrait depitcs Jackson dressed in red velvet holding a journal of thoughts and sketches.

* Sketches of the plane with which the Orville and Wilbur Wright achieved controlled flight. Jackson was said to have been fascinated with how the Wrights were able to fly. In a 2007 visit to the the Smithsonian's National Air and Space and American Indian museums, he lingered over the actual 1903 Wright Flyer.

Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' Jacket Sells For $1.8 Million At Auction

In an auction featuring memorabilia from the Beatles, Madonna and Elvis Presley, it was Michael Jackson who proved to be king. The red and black jacket, winged shoulders and all, that Michael wore during his zombie-ridden “Thriller” video fetched a $1.8 million bid at this weekend’s Julien’s auction in Beverly Hills, California, according to the auctioneer’s website.

The winning price was exponentially above the estimated bid of $200,000 to $400,000. Part of the proceeds will go toward the Shambala Preserve where Michael’s two Bengal tigers, Thriller and Sabu, have been living the past five years.

The jacket had been given to Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush, Michael’s longtime costume designers, to use as a reference for concert performances of the “Thriller” song. It includes an inscription to them on the jacket’s lining, and the sleeve is signed, “Love Michael Jackson.” Its sale came exactly two years after he Jackson was killed.

The jacket wasn’t the only piece of history from the late King of Pop that was part of the auction. The signature fedora Michael wore during his Bad Tour was sold for $16,250, a handwritten note to friend Elizabeth Taylor went for $5,625 and a signed pillowcase fetched $3,584. And a bidder paid out $330,000 — more than 10 times what Julien’s had expected to get — for one of the famous, shiny, crystal-covered gloves that Michael wore during the 1980s.

“Michael Jackson has an unbelievable fan base,” Darren Julien, the auction house’s president, told CNN earlier this month.

Other pieces of history, from other members of music royalty, were also featured at the auction. While gold records and instruments were common items, others were more practical — like Frank Sinatra’s boots (selling for $2,500) and his 1986 Jaguar car ($19,000). as well as the U.S. Army-issued sewing kit of Elvis Presley’s that went for $1,536.

Fan Shows LOVE To Michael With Special Gift To His Children

Just before the two-year anniversary of the passing of Michael, his children received a special gift from a fan.

Michael’s oldest son, 14-year old Prince and 13-year old daughter Paris received two customized motorcycles that were dedicated to the ‘King of Pop.’ Looking at the images of this motorcycle, it is clearly evident that this was a fan with a great love for Michael.

The front shows MJ circa the Jackson 5 era sitting on a throne sporting an afro. Other images on the bike show MJ wearing his trademark sunglasses. Michael’s trademark poses were lovingly portrayed, making it truly a work of art.

The music industry and the world just doesn’t seem the same since Michael died on June 25, 2009.
There will be naysayers and what some MJ fans refer to as “haters,” but all he wanted in the world was love. With this gesture, it is clear that MJ was more than loved in this world. It’s just too bad that he wasn’t shown that when he was alive.

Jermaine: "World Not Ready" For Michael's Message

On Monday, Jermaine Jackson participated in the opening ceremony for the Madame Tussauds Hollywood's Michael Jackson Experience, unvailing three new wax figures of his famous brother. But during the ceremony, Jermaine spoke to reporters, telling them that he believed the world was not ready for Michael.

Jermaine said, "I'm feeling like God brought him here, gave him to us, and God took him back."

Then, speaking about Michael's career and charity work Jermaine said "this world was not ready for it. It's really sad, it saddens me, but at the same time I know that he made his mark and he showed the world how we can be and how we should be and that's what he was all about."

As the new wax figures were unvailed Jermaine commented that the most recent one, taken from Jackson's This Is It period, bore a good resemblance to his brother's youngest son, saying with a smile, "The one on the right reminds me of Blanket."

Jermaine also spoke about the upcoming trial of Dr. Conrad Murray saying that it wouldn't change anything and that he feared the defense would paint his brother in a bad light.

"The trial is one thing, but what is it going to do?" he said. "They're going to try to paint my brother as the most horrible person, and we know that he's not that. Michael's gone, his spirit will live on forever, but the trial is not going to change anything."

Michael Jackson's Brothers Talk Reunion Tour

Michael Jackson's brothers are working on a reunion tour to perform their old Jackson 5 songs, Jermaine Jackson said Monday.

"Michael would want us to continue on," Jackson said, after he unveiled an exhibit of his brother's wax statues at Madame Tussauds in Hollywood.

Saturday marks the second anniversary of the pop icon's sudden death, which the coroner ruled was from an overdose of a surgical anesthetic.

"The brothers now are ready just to keep the legacy going and the music," Jackson said. "We're meeting today about putting a tour together just to play the music because it's such wonderful music. We need to continue to play this music because it's healing for us."

Jackson did not say which of his brothers were involved in the talks. Recent attempts to reunite the brothers on stage were met with frustration and division, including the effort documented by an A&E Network reality show in 2009.

Monday's unveiling was a reunion of sorts for Michael Jackson. It featured wax figures depicting him as a child performing with the Jackson 5, as the "Smooth Criminal" from around 1987 and the "This Is It" Michael Jackson of his last year.

Jermaine Jackson said his favorite was the last statue because of how it captured his brother's onstage posture.

"Someone was really paying a lot of attention to detail," he said.

The Michael Jackson exhibit is on a world tour, spending this summer in Hollywood before heading to Las Vegas in September.

Friday Night’s Flashmob on Nashville’s Lower Brodway (VIDEO)

Traffic stopped on Nashville's Lower Broadway Friday night. Instead of vehicles using the street, nearly 100 flash mob dancers performed to Michael Jackson's "Beat It".

News of the flash mob went out over social media early in the week.

"I invited some of my friends and other people heard about it and invited their friends, and told their friends. It's really a bunch of people we don't know," flash mob organizer Kristin Dabbs explained.

The group even helped flash mob participants get ready for the Friday night event.

"We sent out a tutorial video on Facebook so people can kind of know most the moves before they show up," said flash mob choreographer Charee Balm.

At 7 o'clock Friday night, the flash mob participants lined Broadway between 4th and 5th Avenues waiting for the music to start.

Meanwhile, Metro Police officers kept a close eye on the situation and waited for the flash mob to start.

When the music started, Metro patrol cars moved into place, blocking traffic. That is when Trent Dabbs, wearing a Michael Jackson t-shirt, moved into the street and started dancing.

The crowd joined in and filled that section of Lower Broadway with their dance moves.

Country singer and dancer Laura Bell Bundy was one of the people who took part in this flash mob.

After a few minutes, the music faded down and the flash mob cleared the street, very excited about what just happened.

"It was like so cool," said one young participant.

"I think it went well. Nobody got run over, so that was good," said Kristin Dabbs.

Many of the people who came out said the flash mob was an opportunity they could not pass up.

"I've just seen them happen before, I've seen them online and on TV. And as soon as she told me about it I was like, yes, I definitely want to be a part of that," according to Marianne Keith who was visiting Nashville from Los Angeles.

Trent Dabbs was the first person out on the street. His birthday inspired the flash mob. Dabbs admitted to being a little nervous as the song started.

"I was in the front so I couldn't see much of what was going on, so I was just saying a prayer," Dabbs said.

Metro Police did not stop the flash mob. Officers stopped traffic for the short time the dancers were on the street. The entire scene was over in less than five minutes.

Jermaine To Open New Michael Jackson Exhibit at Madame Tussauds Hollywood

Jermaine Jackson will mark the upcoming second anniversary of his brother Michael's death on Monday (20Jun11) when he officially opens a new Madame Tussauds Hollywood exhibition honouring the late King of Pop.

He will cut the ribbon on The Michael Jackson Experience, which features more than $1 million (£625,000) in Jackson wax figures and guest experiences that trace the superstar from the early days of the Jackson 5 to his death in 2009.

The event will be Madame Tussauds Hollywood's first ever multi-media limited engagement.

La Toya Is Set To Release A Book About Michael’s Death This Week

La Toya Jackson has written a book about her brother Michael's death. She is set to release her book entitled Starting Over next week, in which she gives her own version about Michael’s death.
In the book, she reveals that when she found out her brother had died she immediately thought, "Who killed Michael?"

La Toya also writes about how she went into his room following his death and found furniture overturned, as well as notes addressed to his dad Joe pleading for him to "get these people out of my life" and others that stated Michael "only agreed to 10 shows".

La Toya pointed out Michael’s daughter Paris informed her about Michael's wellbeing shortly before he died, as the youngster told her: "Daddy was always cold and would always cry." La Toya's brother Jermaine is set to release his version of Michael's death in September.

Last night Tatum O’Neal -Michael’s first girlfriend- appeared on CNN’s Piers Morgan show.

Michael Jackson said she was his first girlfirend and by all accounts his first big love. In her autobiography, Tatum says that all they ever did was briefly kiss when she was 12 and was 17.

Earlier today Michael’s brother Jermaine felt that he needed to set the record straight making a brief statement via his variefied Twitter account:

“To clarify Tatum O´Neal, Michael wasn’t “addicted” as you said on Piers Morgan. Propofol was administered for him to sleep #factsplease. Bad enough contending with what Murray’s defense is likely to claim without more misinformation.

I’m sure Tatum meant well. She was otherwise kind about Michael, but this myth is upsetting.”
